1 Hotel West Hollywood

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA

At 1 Hotel West Hollywood, the landscape helps shape a more immersive relationship between hospitality and nature. Planting was used to soften the building’s harder surfaces and to carry a warmer, more grounded character through entries, terraces, and interior-adjacent spaces. The result is an environment that feels layered, relaxed, and closely tied to the context and hotel’s overall material palette.

An outdoor patio with potted plants, a woman sitting on a cushioned wooden lounge chair, and a woman with blonde hair sitting on a chair, using her phone, surrounded by plants and modern architecture.

Rather than treating landscape as a separate element, the project integrates planting into the broader guest experience. Wood, clay, and other natural materials are paired with abundant foliage to create a setting that feels textured, informal, and distinctly rooted in Southern California. Peter Emerson was responsible for design and development while employed with RIOS.
