Emerson Collaborative is a landscape architecture practice focused on thoughtful, well-crafted outdoor environments. The studio works across scales and typologies, with an emphasis on landscapes that are shaped carefully over time and closely tied to their architectural and ecological context.
The practice is intentionally small, allowing for direct collaboration, continuity, and sustained involvement throughout design and construction. Work is developed in close partnership with owners, architects, consultants, fabricators, and builders, with attention given equally to large-scale planning and detailed execution.
Led by Peter Emerson, the studio draws from experience spanning historic estates, complex civic projects, commercial/mixed use developments, campus design and contemporary residential landscapes across the United States and abroad. His work emphasizes large scale thinking, detailed understanding, and crafting landscapes designed for the shaping of daily life outdoors.
Peter is a landscape architect who focuses part of the practice on the design of highly tailored private landscapes. His residential work spans historic East Coast estates - including a retreat in New Hampshire, a 60-acre waterfront property on the Chesapeake Bay and a 300-acre estate in West Chester - to contemporary hillside and urban gardens throughout Southern California, with projects in Montecito, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, Trousdale Estates, and Palm Desert.
Alongside this work, he has led major civic, commercial and campus projects across the United States and internationally, bringing the rigor and clarity required for complex, multi-stakeholder environments into each commission.
